課程概述	本課程講述臺灣平埔族之研究，探索臺灣平埔研究的重要研究與諸議題。本課程包括的範圍，在時間的深度上先由考古學之證據介紹平埔之來源，然後講述荷蘭之前的記載，尤其是1582年葡萄牙船難事件之研究。之後介紹荷據時期以來的平埔文獻，包括荷蘭、清、日本各時期的重要研究。然後分不同主題講述平埔研究之社會文化諸面相，包括語言、地理分佈、族群關係、族群認同、親屬、漢化、宗教變遷等等議題的重要著作，以增加學生知識的深度以及更全面性的了解平埔族。本課程包括許多英文讀物，主要考量為學生自己找中文讀物來閱讀很容易，而英文讀物比較需要老師的介紹與講解，目的在使學生熟悉國外同行的研究。假如學生有閱讀上的困難，老師會在課堂上講解。此外，每週讀物可能隨著進度補充或修改。
課程目標	1.歷經四百多年來之演變，平埔族人幾乎已經漢化，然而近年來臺灣本土文化之研究、復振運動風起雲湧，平埔人自不例外。因本系及本校並無平埔研究之課程，而時有學生要求，希望透過本課程之講述讓學生認識本土之傳統歷史文化。
課程要求	學生需能閱讀中、英文文章。學生預計每週需要花五個小時準備和復習課程內容。
